Eagles Camp

Published by hcbb10 at 8:45 pm under NFL Edit This

The Philadelphia Eagles head to training camp in less than two weeks and the excitement for another Eagles season is somewhat invisible right now.

With the Phillies in first place in the NL East, barely, and the Sixers making a splash in free agency, the Eagles are on the back burner right now in Philadelphia.

Rookies and selected veterans will be the first to report to Eagles camp towards the end of July and all eyes will be on quarterback Donovan McNabb and whether or not he is healthy.

The Eagles have added depth at cornerback for the upcoming season as they signed Asante Samuel away from the New England Patriots while parting ways with embattled defensive end Jevon Kearse. The question still remains as to whether Lito Sheppard will still be an Eagle when the team breaks camp at the end of August.

First round draft pick DeSean Jackson, when he signs, will be an added bonus to the special teams, especially the return game. He has great hands and quick feet, which should cause plenty of problems for opponents’ special teams squads. If he develops quick enough then the Eagles could use him at wide receiver on offense to bolster their down-field attack.

It has already been determined that second year quarterback Kevin Kolb will be the backup to Donovan McNabb and A.J. Feeley will be the third string on the depth chart.

It should be an interesting camp for the Eagles and McNabb, especially watching the position battles on offense and defense. The Eagles coaching staff and front office are going to have some tough decisions to make come roster cut time when they need to trim their lineup down to 53 players. Some veterans might be victims of a youth movement, especially on defense.

Keep an eye out for Greg Lewis and Hank Baskett; both of whom could be fighting for a roster spot during training camp.
