Ellis Out for 30
The Golden State Warriors have suspended guard Monta Ellis for 30 games during the upcoming 2008-2009 NBA season.
Why?
He injured his ankle during a Moped accident and then lied about the injury to his team.
When the team found out about the injury and how it really happened they decided to suspend their guard for 30 games of the regular season.
Ellis was suspended by team president Robert Rowell against the wishes of executive Chris Mullin and head coach Don Nelson.
Ellis is also suspended without pay for the entire 30 games. He will be missing out on nearly $3 million.
The Moped accident occurred as a violation of Ellis’ contract. Most athletes have clauses in their contracts that state that they can not do anything that could harm their health during or after the season like Moped riding, motorcycle riding, mountain climbing or water skiing.
Ellis will miss 30 games in the 2008-2009 season after the Warriors won 48 games in 2007-08 and went to the playoffs the year before.
