Celtics Hoist Banner
The Boston Celtics hoisted their 17th NBA Championship banner to the rafters of the TD Banknorth Garden.
The team also received its championship rings in a pre-game ceremony before the Celtics hosted the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Paul Pierce, in his 10th season with the club, was brought to tears at the sight of the banner being raised to the rafters and at the sight of his new ring.
The Celtics demolished the Lakers in the clinching game of the series 131-92 at home to grab the title. It was the team’s first title since 1986.
The Celtics beat the Atlanta Hawks in the opening round of the playoffs and then knocked off the Cavaliers, with both series going seven games.
Boston then eliminated the Detroit Pistons in six games to grab the conference title before facing and beating the Lakers in the Finals.
