Milwaukee Brewers closer Salomon Torres has retired from Major League Baseball after a 12 year career.

He has played for San Francisco, Seattle, Montreal, Pittsburgh and most recently Milwaukee. Torres finished the 2008 season with 28 saves and helped lead the Brewers to their first playoff appearance since 1982.

The Brewers were eliminated in four games in the National League Division Series by the Phillies, 3 games to 1.

Torres finishes his career with a record of 44-58 with a career ERA of 4.31. He also has 57 career saves.

Torres says he still has a passion for baseball but wants to focus on family issues.
