Raptors Fire Mitchell
The Toronto Raptors have fired head coach Sam Mitchell after the team started the season 8-9.
Mitchell has been replaced by assistant coach Jay Triano.
Mitchell did lead the Raptors to the playoffs the past two seasons and was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2006-07.
The team’s 132-93 loss to the Denver Nuggets earlier this week was the final straw in the decision to fire Mitchell.
Triano is now the first Canadian head coach in the history of the league. He will be in charge for the remainder of the season.
Mitchell is the third NBA coach to be fired this season.
The team will be re-evaluated at the end of the season before anymore coaching moves are made.
